BATTLE FOR EARTH 9 GAME RULES:

Every paid MCTA member will be assigned or may select a character to play as in BFE-9.
The amount you wish to participate is up to the player. The month of April, MCTA members
will begin getting assigned characters and may start playing any other participants they
see on the STAR STANDINGS Ladder page. At the beginning of the season all characters
are given 40 Life Force Points. Life Force is the health of your character.
THE RESULTS OF YOUR MATCHES REFLECT YOUR LIFE FORCE POINTS.

On Monday, May 3rd, the Star Standings page will be reorganized according to players
Life Force scores. This will be the only time of the season the Star Standings page
will be reorganized by Life Force scores.

On Monday, June 7th, any particiapants who have not played a match will be dropped
below those members who have - regardless of their score. Those members who
have not played standings will be positioned alphabetically according to
their characters name.

ANY SINGLES MATCH THAT NARRATOR IS INFORMED OF, FINDS OUT ABOUT OR IS
REPORTED, WILL BE COUNTED TOWARDS BFE-9. THESE INCLUDE ALL SINGLES MATCHES
PLAYED FOR TEAM TENNIS AND USTA CLUB MATCHES AGAINST OTHER MCTA MEMBERS.

SCHEDULING MATCHES, STAR STANDINGS & LIFE FORCE POINTS:
This season the Battle For Earth 9 "STAR STANDINGS " page will represent a Challenge Ladder for
the MCTA's Single League participants. Players may select (or be assigned) a character from the
Marvel Universe to play as. Once assigned, players may begin challenging other participants from the
STAR STANDINGS Ladder page who are five slots above them. Once your match is completed, e-mail
NARRATOR at bfenarrator@hotmail.com and submit your result. In the event that the lower ranked
STAR defeats a higher ranked STAR player, NARRATOR will then exchange the two players positions.
If the higher ranked STAR is victorious then there will be no change in positions
on the STAR STANDINGS page.

There is no scheduling of opponents by NARRATOR. Players are responsible for setting up and playing their
own matches with other participants in the league. Simply contact your desired opponent(s) and set up a
time and place to play as long as they are within five slots from your position on the Star Standings page.
Play as much or as little as your schedule permits. A contact list will be sent out to all
participants once the league begins.

A player may not deny a challenge from a lower positioned player UNLESS they already have two matches
set up within a two week time frame. Players experiencing difficulty setting up matches with a player
should contact NARRATOR immediately.

THREE WAYS TO PLAY:
Players may choose 3 ways to play their matches:
• Best two out of three sets (Regular Scoring)
• Best two out of three sets with the third set being a 7-point Tie-Break (first to 7, with a two point lead)
• 8 Game Pro Set. Must win by two games. ~ 7-point Tie-Break at 7-7 (first to seven with a two-point lead)

Players should discuss format before beginning their matches. If there is no discussion, a best two of three sets should
be assumed. Players may agree to play the 7-point Tie-Break if time/light is limited for the third set.

SCORING & LEVEL:
There are 3 levels in BFE-9 - all listed on the players character bar on the Star Standings page
and on the character pages :
A - High
B - Intermediate
C - Beginner

Scoring varies depending on the skill level of the opponents playing. Scores between different level players will be
rounded to the lower number if .4 or below and to the higher number if .5 or higher.

EQUAL PLAYING LEVELS
Straight Up Scoring
Example: If the score is 6-3, 7-6, winner would receive 4 Life Force Points (40+4=44)
while your opponent would lose 4 points (40-4=36).

ONE LEVEL DIFFERENTIAL (A Level vs. B Level or B Level vs. C Level)
The HIGHER LEVEL PLAYER must win by 6 or more games and cannot win more than 6 points.
For each game the lower player wins they subtract 1 point from the 6 points the HIGHER PLAYER could obtain.
(If an 8 Game Pro Set is played the HIGHER PLAYER must win by 4 or more games and cannot win more than 4 points)

Example: If the HIGHER LEVEL PLAYER wins 6-2, 6-1, they would recieve 3 Life Force Points (6-3=3).

If the LOWER LEVEL PLAYER wins more than 6 games, or the match against a ONE LEVEL DIFFERENTIAL PLAYER,
their score is MULTIPLIED BY TWO for each additional game they won.

Example: If the HIGHER LEVEL PLAYER wins 6-4, 6-3, they would not recieve any Life Force Points for the match (6-7=-1).
The LOWER LEVEL PLAYER would therefore be awarded 2 Life Force Points (1x2=2) and the
HIGHER PLAYER would lose 1 Life Force Point.

Example: If the LOWER LEVEL PLAYER wins 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-2, they would recieve 6 Life Force Points (18-15=3, 3x2=6).
The HIGHER LEVEL PLAYER would therefore lose those 6 points.

If the HIGHER LEVEL player wins by the 6 points only they will recieve 1 Life Force Point
and the LOWER PLAYER will not lose any Life Force Points.

If the LOWER LEVEL player wins the match and the point total comes to 0 they will recieve 1 (multiplied by 2)
Life Force Point and the HIGHER PLAYER will not lose any Life Force Points.

TWO LEVEL DIFFERENTIAL (A Level vs. C Level)
The HIGHER LEVEL PLAYER must win by 9 or more games and cannot win more than 3 points.
For each game the lower player wins they subtract 1 point from the 3 points the HIGHER PLAYER could obtain.
(If an 8 Game Pro Set is played, the HIGHER PLAYER must win by 6 or more games and cannot win more than 2 points)

Example: If the HIGHER LEVEL PLAYER wins 6-2, 6-0, they would recieve 1 Life Force Points (3-2=1).

If the LOWER LEVEL PLAYER wins more than 3 games, or the match against a TWO LEVEL DIFFERENTIAL PLAYER,
their score is MULTIPLIED BY THREE for each additional game they won.

Example: If the HIGHER LEVEL PLAYER wins 6-4, 6-3, they would not recieve any Life Force Points for the match (3-7=-4).
The LOWER LEVEL PLAYER would therefore be awarded 12 Life Force Points (4x3=12) and the
HIGHER PLAYER would lose 4 Life Force Points.

Example: If the LOWER LEVEL PLAYER wins 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-2, they would recieve 9 Life Force Points (18-15=3, 3x3=9).
The HIGHER LEVEL PLAYER would therefore lose those 9 points.

If the HIGHER LEVEL player wins by the 9 points only they will recieve 1 Life Force Point
and the LOWER PLAYER will not lose any Life Force Points.

If the LOWER LEVEL player wins the match and the point total comes to 0 they will recieve 1 (multiplied by 3)
Life Force Point and the HIGHER PLAYER will not lose any Life Force Points.

BONUS MATCHES:
Players will notice the 15 colored stars on their characters bar on the Star Standings page as well as on
their Character pages. These stars represent the number of Bonus Matches you have remaining for each level.
Bonus matches can be played with any character regardless of the position on the Star Standings page
and if victorious allow you to bypass foes who are not within the 5 slots on the STAR STANDINGS page.
Bonus match star disappear for BOTH characters once the match is completed.

RED STAR - A Level
YELLOW STAR - B Level
WHITE STAR - C Level

Once you run out of any level star, you will no longer be able to play Bonus Matches with that corresponding
level. Please indicate when reporting your score if the match was a Bonus Match. Bonus Matches count
as a regular match for both the winning and losing player. So select your opponents wisely.

DEATH:
Any player who falls below 0 Life Force Points is considered DEAD. The player who kills a character
is awarded an additional 5 Life Force Points.

NOTES:
Players who fail to appear for a SCHEDULED match will lose 5 LIFE FORCE POINTS and their
opponent shall receive 5 LIFE FORCE POINTS. A 20-minute default rule applies from the
agreed on playing time. Please attempt to call your opponent if you are running late.
Try to work on these situations amongst yourselves. NARRATOR prefers to stay out of these situations...

BFE-9 BI-LAWS:
Any player caught attempting to tamper with set scores, making up scores, or coercing another player to make
up a score will be immediately expelled from Battle For Earth 8. Please play fairly. If you are uncertain
to a line call, you must give the call in your opponents favor or simply ask your opponent what
hey thought. You cannot "THINK" a ball out. USTA rules state that you may ask your opponent as to
whether their serve was good as well. It is suggested that you contact available opponents for each round
promptly to allow more time for scheduling purposes. Players join BFE-8 to play matches.
If you have trouble contacting an opponent please notify NARRATOR.
